“I Am the Key,” The La’s. The Liverpool quartet released one album, The La’s, in 1990, after years of stop-and-start recording and mixing. It included “There She Goes” (240p for sound). Singer-songwriter Lee Mavers was unhappy with the final product, however, and for various reasons, he soon became something of a recluse. This version of “I Am the Key,” taped during a live session at Manchester’s Key 103 radio studios in January 1989, is the closest thing there is to a preview of the band’s never-recorded sophomore LP.

It’s always puzzled me why Mavers didn’t like “The La’s;” I’ve always thought it’s one of the more perfect little albums out there.
