There is a critical success factor though to achieving Internet scale that I think is being widely ignored: intentionally keeping a service underdetermined…

This is so, so important. I’ve always felt of the best things about Tumblr is that there’s no intended use case, which makes the service open to a really amazing array of creative uses.
