As of this morning, the fire is reported at 60,000 acres (up from 49,000 last night and just a couple thousand Sunday.) The Albuquerque Journal reports that air monitoring teams have arrived on the scene to check for potential radiation releases if the lab, which houses radioactive materials, does catch fire. The Associated Press has written that a 2009 report from the U.S. Department of Energy’s inspector general said Los Alamos County firefighters weren’t sufficiently trained to handle the unique fires they could face with hazardous or radioactive materials at LANL.
