Why are we in this again?
Brian Storm, founder of MediaStorm, says pages views are the wrong metric for news organizations to judge their success. Lost in the shuffle is journalism’s original civic responsibility.
H/T: StoryTell.in: How do we Measure the News.
True. But kind of beside the point, really—yes, journalists want to do great, influential work, and I’ve long argued that the conventional metrics for judging that, awards from various organizations, is flawed to say the least.
But whether its pageviews, time on site, or simply donors who love and support your work, key metrics for news orgs are ones that measure how they’re going to pay the bills.
